Keeping Ourselves Safe

What can you do if someone is annoying or bullying you? 
 What are some helpful statements you can use? 

 Constable Jo visited us and helped answer these questions.  She showed us some ways to keep ourselves safe.  
We rolled-played bullying each other and responding in safe ways like saying "stop it, I don't like it."
  It was very hard to keep a straight-face and some of us kept laughing. We also talked about the people we could go to for help.

We read the book The Tree House Treaty by Wiremu Grace.   The children in the story built a tree hut in a big old Pohutakawa tree.  They made a treaty to agree how they could all use their tree hut fairly. We created our own class treaty to symbolize how our class is a friendly and supportive learning environment.

Swimming

Everyday we have swimming. We have people who are learning to get their faces wet by playing ring-a-rosie. Some of us are learning to kick so the water bubbles. And some of us are learning to do freestyle without splashing the water by cupping our hands. On Fridays we get to practice our swimming by having free time. It is fun! Today we made a whirlpool. We made it go fast and it started dragging us. Then we went the other way. It was hard because the water was pushing us back. When we finished the water was pushing us along.
