The history of Light

This term we are finding out about light. First we decided to look into the history of light. Right at the beginning of time we only had the sun and stars to provide our light. As time has gone on we have found ways to use fire to help light up our world and we have invented light devices - the light bulb, touches, etc. We found this wonderful website to help us understand how light has evolved.  Click on the link below to see.

We read the book The Tree House Treaty by Wiremu Grace.   The children in the story built a tree hut in a big old Pohutakawa tree.  They made a treaty to agree how they could all use their tree hut fairly. We created our own class treaty to symbolize how our class is a friendly and supportive learning environment.

Swimming

Everyday we have swimming. We have people who are learning to get their faces wet by playing ring-a-rosie. Some of us are learning to kick so the water bubbles. And some of us are learning to do freestyle without splashing the water by cupping our hands. On Fridays we get to practice our swimming by having free time. It is fun! Today we made a whirlpool. We made it go fast and it started dragging us. Then we went the other way. It was hard because the water was pushing us back. When we finished the water was pushing us along.
