Salt dough
Today we had our first go at salt dough. Mrs Nicholson helped us work out how much we would need to make so we could all have a go. We used our maths knowledge to work out the ratios of salt, flour and paste and made it up. We kneaded the dough until it was a little bit smooth and then made up the shape of one of the animals we had seen at the farm show. Mrs Nicholson is going to bake a couple tonight to see how our recipe worked and tomorrow we will make some up to make into fridge magnets. Have a look at what we did.

wow room 14 that looks cool as was it sticuy
ReplyDeleteThat looks like lots of fun! Are you going to paint them or leave them white?
ReplyDeleteWe are going to paint them and then put magnets on the back so they will be fridge magnets.
ReplyDeleteThe salt dough was a little sticky to begin with so we kneaded it with a little flour until it was soft. Some of us used a little too much flour and it became crumbly and unusable.
Oh wow the salt dough looked great! In the beginning what did the salt dough feel like? Was it bumpy and lumpy or was it soft and smooth? I loved it great work!

It wasn't lumpy but it was wet and sticky and you could feel the grains of salt. As we kneaded it it became smooth
DeleteMaking salt dough sounds SO fun! I have recently made papier mache. Did you make any other crafts?
ReplyDeleteNo but we are planning to make our own wrapping paper so we can make them into presents. We will make the paper with potato stamps.
DeleteIn art we made abstract apples. My favorite sculpture was a pig. Thank you for sharing your art work!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like soooooo much fun! I've made some Playdough with my mom and my mom's friend before. It was really fun too! Did you guys get to put on the magent parts or did your teacher get to and did your teacher use a hot glue gun? Please write back. Ayah
ReplyDeleteWe have only just vanished our salt dough. Tomorrow we will get the teacher to glue on the magnets using elephant glue.
DeleteI am impressed that you used ratios to figure out how much of each ingredient to use. Good work applying your math skills!
ReplyDeleteI have never made those before. They looked pretty cool! What would happen to them if they were not baked? It looked like it was fun to me, Johnathan.
ReplyDeleteIf we didn't bake them they would only dry out a bit and then crumble and fall apart. Also if they got we they would start to rot.
DeleteHey, that looks like fun. Can someone teach me how to make it?

ReplyDeleteLoved the salt dough animals, some of them seemed so creative and intersting, the designs on them looked really good, I couldn't believe how detailed that pig was. I showed this on the data projector this afternoon to our class of Y7 and Y8 students.

Hi Room 14
ReplyDeleteIt's looks like you made some wonderful salt dough. You also learnt lot's about maths while making it.
Thanks for your comment on our class blog. We only found it now when we were checking our spam comments. You commented on our using twitter post. We had fun tweeting as well and yes, it was hard keeping up with all the tweets.
