We are a class of Year 3 and 4 students at Hamilton East School in Hamilton, New Zealand. Our teacher is Rebecca Wilcox, you can contact her by emailing rwilcox@hameast.school.nz.
We love learning together and sharing our learning with others.
We have finished our calendar art and it is in the office for parents to view, and order calendars and cards. Here is a sneak peek at how wonderful it is. Just click on the picture and turn the pages.
Hi Room 14 Well done on making a great job putting your calendar art together. I'm sure the parents will be eager to buy each and every one. Thanks for sharing them on your blog. From Mrs Laburn Kids with a view
Wow! That is like a good idea to cut out a picture of yourself and put a leaf backround on. It seems like the leaves has gone big or the people went small. Rebecca Room8
Dear Room 14 We like you leaf picture. I think you did a good job at cutting out your pictures. We think you have lovely smiles. Did you take your own leaf photos?
Yes we piled up some of the leaves around the school and we all took turns taking photographs. Once they were on the computer we were able to use the photograph we had taken, or one someone else had taken. Some of the photographs had badly angled leaves so we couldn't place ourselves in a sitting position. We know what to look for next time we take photographs for a project like this. The leaves were such lovely colours we had trouble picking the one we liked the most.
We read the book The Tree House Treaty by Wiremu Grace. The children in the story built a tree hut in a big old Pohutakawa tree. They made a treaty to agree how they could all use their tree hut fairly. We created our own class treaty to symbolize how our class is a friendly and supportive learning environment.
Getting Wet I was jumping up and down singing ‘ring-a-ring-a-rosies’. My goal was getting wet so I tried and tried to get wet until my nose touched the water. Then I had done it! When I was jumping up and down singing ‘ring-a-ring-a-rosie’ I thought it was helping me to move in the water. I was still a little frightened of splashes the people made but day-by-day I got braver and braver. Swimming even helped me float with the board. I love swimming. By Rafeea My Swimming Goal I zoom through the open gate door. I zoom inside the open girls changing room door and I got changed very, very, quickly. I got out of the girls changing room and waited for my turn alongside the gate. Now it’s my groups turn to get in. I slide in the safe way. It was cold and chilly in the pool. My group is swimming lengths. My goal was pinkie finger out before the others for backstroke. I have to float on my back, get my motor legs ready, my ice cream scoop hands ready, and push off. My mot...
Every year the same duck comes back to our school to lay her eggs. Building a nest at a school seems like a strange thing to do. This morning Room 14 went and visited Mother Duck in Fairyland. We had to be quiet so we didn't scare her. We wonder how many eggs she has laid in her nest? Here are some of our stories we wrote about Mother Duck. We drew pictures of Mother Duck using Kidpix. As she lays her eggs snug and warm in fairyland Mother Duck is fed by Father Duck. Dugan puts a fence to stop kids from damaging her scaly feathers even though she is tucked away in the leaf litter under the fern. The sky blue eggs will hatch into ducklings soon. I hope they have a safe trip across the road. By Lucy Illustration by Leighton Mother Duck is special to our school. We look after her. We think she is beautiful. I like Mother Duck. She is my favourite bird. I like her pretty feathers. I remember when she was on Putikitiki with her babies. By Kurtis. Illustration by Ryan Mo...
Wow, the children look like characters from the Magic Faraway Tree, maybe wood pixies or elves. What a fun idea!
