Our Garden

Image
Look how tall the sunflowers are.  We went for a walk to see the Kitchen Garden and we couldn't believe how big the sunflowers have grown!  They almost reach the top of the hall.   They are beautiful. Celery and Marigolds are what we have planted outside our classroom.  We need to remember to water them each day so they grow bigger.  Hopefully we will have big healthy plants ready for our HES Harvest Festival.

We have taken a class photo to go with our class Treaty. All of us raise our hands to signify our commitment to HES way. Last week we admired the HUGE Redwood tree standing on the HES grounds. For the class unit 'Turangawaewae' we are discovering hidden life stored in seeds we found foraging beneath the trees and flax plants above. Here we admire the Harekeke or Flax seeds as we shake them free and collect a selection to grow. Seeds are all different shapes and sizes.

Class Treaty

We read the book The Tree House Treaty by Wiremu Grace.   The children in the story built a tree hut in a big old Pohutakawa tree.  They made a treaty to agree how they could all use their tree hut fairly. We created our own class treaty to symbolize how our class is a friendly and supportive learning environment.
